Vintage Kantha Oven Gloves Red & Black

$30.00 SGD

These oven gloves have been made from a vintage kantha, so they will all be slightly different.   They are sold individually.  Each oven glove has a white cotton lining.  Please note these are made of cotton, and are not fire retardant, so care must be taken near open flames.

Kantha is a type of quilt, made without padding, but by sewing together layers of cloth, usually with a running stitch.   It is a centuries-old tradition, originating in Bengal, and was a way to recycle old cloth, typically saris, but also as a form of artistic expression, with each piece reflecting the skill and taste (or not!) of its maker.

They can be washed, and one would imagine that over the course of their lifetime, each piece of fabric has been washed dozens of times before becoming part of the kantha.  Nonetheless, we would avoid the use of bleach, harsh detergents and would was dark colours separately.
