Vintage Red Lacquer Box

These beautiful vintage red lacquer boxes are all different - some plain, some patterned - so please contact us if you would like to buy online, or come to one of our stores to see them.  The shape of the lids resembles a stupa, which gives them a very pleasing and attractive appearance.   Originally used for storing the red powder used for bindis, the red forehead marking worn by women (and sometimes men) in India, they could be used for storing jewellery, trinkets, or spices, or as a decorative item in their own right.   These would make a very special and unusual gift.
